Table of contents
These are the sections. The opposition research page describes the same public records and the rule that a claim needs a source.
Biography
A biography section cites a public record for the person's name and for the dates that record states, such as a date of birth or the start and end of an office term. A date stays out of the section when the cited record does not state it.
Voting record
A voting-record section lists roll calls that name the person and cites the record that shows each vote. When no roll call names the person, the section stays empty. A term of service is not a vote.
FEC finance
An FEC finance section cites a Federal Election Commission filing that names the person or the committee. A number stays in the section only when that filing states it, and the citation names the filing that was opened.
Disclosures
A disclosures section cites a personal financial disclosure that names the person. The section stays empty when no disclosure on file names that person.
Court records
A court-records section cites a court record that matches the person. A case that names a different person stays out of the section.
Public statements
A public-statements section quotes words the person said and cites the page where those words appear. The section keeps the words that were said.
Self-research checklist
Self-research asks the same questions about the candidate the campaign works for. An item stays unanswered when no public record answers it. A longer account of that pass is self opposition research.
- Which public record states the name, and which dates does that record state?
- Which roll calls name this person?
- Which FEC filing names this person or this committee, and which figures does that filing state?
- Which personal financial disclosure names this person?
- Which court record matches this person?
- Which public statement is in this person's words, and where was it published?
